What is the Shala Darpan App?
The Shala Darpan mobile app is the official Android application for Rajasthan's school education portal. Built by NIC eGov Mobile Apps, it brings the most-used features of the desktop portal to your phone. Teachers can check attendance, view transfer orders, and see report cards. School heads can manage staff and student records on the go. Parents and citizens can search schools, check results, and view student progress without visiting a computer center.
The app is designed for speed and simplicity. It loads faster than the mobile browser version, remembers your login, and sends notifications for important updates like transfer orders or result announcements. However, it does not include every feature available on the desktop site. Some advanced tasks like bulk data entry or detailed report generation still require a computer.
Who should use the app?
- Teachers and staff — check daily attendance, view your posting history, download pay slips, and apply for transfers from your phone.
- School heads and principals — monitor staff attendance, approve requests, view student enrollment numbers, and check school performance data.
- Parents — view your child's report card, check attendance records, and track academic progress through Shala Samvad integration.
- Citizens — search for schools by name or code, view basic school information, and check Class 5th and 8th results.
How to download the Shala Darpan app
The app is available only on the Google Play Store for Android devices. There is no official iOS version for iPhone or iPad.
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android phone.
- Search for "Shala Darpan" or "NIC eGov Mobile Apps".
- Look for the app published by NIC eGov Mobile Apps. The icon shows the Shala Darpan logo with a blue background.
- Tap Install. The app is under 15 MB and downloads quickly.
- Once installed, tap Open to launch the app.
Beware of fake apps: Only download from the official Play Store listing by NIC eGov Mobile Apps. If any app asks for payment, it is fake. The real Shala Darpan app is completely free.
System requirements
Before downloading, make sure your phone meets these minimum requirements:
- Operating system: Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher
- RAM: At least 2 GB for smooth operation
- Storage: 50 MB free space for the app plus cache
- Internet: Wi-Fi or mobile data connection required
- Screen: Minimum 4.7-inch display for readable interface
Older phones with Android 4.x may install the app but experience slow loading or crashes. If your phone runs Android 6 or above, you should have no issues.
How to log in to the Shala Darpan app
The login process on the app is similar to the desktop portal but simplified for mobile screens.
Staff login (teachers and employees)
- Open the app and tap "Staff Login" or "Staff Login".
- Enter your Staff NIC-SD ID (the 10-12 digit number, not your name).
- Enter your password.
- Complete the captcha — type the characters exactly as shown, including uppercase and lowercase letters.
- Tap Login. If correct, you reach the staff dashboard.
Your NIC-SD ID is the same number used on the desktop portal. If you do not know it, ask your school head or check our Employee Code guide.
School head login
- Open the app and tap "School Login" or "School Login".
- Enter your School NIC-SD code (the school's unique identification number).
- Enter your password.
- Complete the captcha.
- Tap Login to access the school management dashboard.
Student and parent access
Students and parents do not log in through the main app login screen. Instead, use the Shala Samvad section or the Citizen Window within the app. For student report cards, you need the Student NIC ID and date of birth. For parent access, use your Jan Aadhaar number to view all linked children's records.
Key features of the Shala Darpan app
The app organizes its features into clear sections accessible from the main dashboard after login.
Attendance tracking
Teachers can mark and view daily attendance for their class. The app shows present, absent, and leave counts. School heads see a summary of all classes and staff attendance. This data syncs with the desktop portal, so changes made on the app appear on the portal within minutes.
Report cards and student progress
Through Shala Samvad integration, the app displays student report cards with marks, grades, and teacher comments. Parents can view their children's performance across subjects and track improvement over time. Report cards are available after the school uploads them following exam results.
Transfer order tracking
Teachers applying for transfers can submit applications and track their status directly from the app. The app shows whether your application is submitted, under review, approved, or rejected. When approved, you can download the transfer order PDF and present it at your new school.
School search
The Citizen Window in the app lets anyone search for government schools across Rajasthan. You can search by school name, NIC-SD code, district, or block. Results show the school's address, management type, student count, and staff count. This is useful for parents choosing a school or researchers studying education access.
Result checking
During result season, the app provides direct access to Class 5th and 8th board results. You can check results by roll number plus district, by application number, or by school code. The app loads results faster than the browser during high-traffic periods because it uses optimized API calls.
Notifications and alerts
The app sends push notifications for important events: transfer window opening dates, result announcements, scholarship deadlines, and maintenance schedules. You can enable or disable notifications in your phone's settings for the Shala Darpan app.
App features by user type

App vs desktop: which should you use?
The app and desktop portal serve the same system but work best for different situations.
- Use the app for: quick attendance checks, viewing report cards on the go, tracking transfer status, checking results, and getting notifications.
- Use the desktop for: bulk data entry, detailed report generation, managing multiple student records, printing documents, and advanced school management tasks.
The app does not support every feature available on the desktop. For example, bulk student enrollment, detailed financial reports, and advanced administrative tools require the full desktop interface. The app is best thought of as a companion tool for when you are away from your desk.
Offline capabilities
The Shala Darpan app requires an internet connection for most features. However, some data may be cached locally after you view it. This means you can sometimes view recently loaded report cards or attendance records even without a connection. The cache clears automatically after 24 hours or when you log out.
Features that require real-time data — like marking attendance, applying for transfers, or checking live results — always need an active internet connection.
Troubleshooting common app problems
App installation issues
App not installing from Play Store
Check that your phone has at least 100 MB free storage and is running Android 5.0 or above. Clear the Play Store cache (Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Clear Cache) and try again. If your phone is very old, the Play Store may not support the app version.
App crashing on startup
This usually happens on phones with less than 2 GB RAM. Close other apps running in the background and try again. If the problem persists, uninstall and reinstall the app. Make sure your Android system is updated to the latest available version.
App says "device not compatible"
Your phone's Android version is too old. The app requires Android 5.0 or higher. Consider upgrading your phone or use the mobile browser version at rajshaladarpan.rajasthan.gov.in instead.
Login problems
"Invalid credentials" error
You are entering the wrong ID or password. Remember: staff use their NIC-SD ID (a number), not their name. Passwords are case-sensitive. If you forgot your password, use the "Forgot Password" link on the login screen. If that does not work, contact your school head or block office for a reset.
Captcha not loading or showing blank
This is usually a network issue. Check your internet connection and refresh the login screen. If the captcha keeps failing, clear the app cache (Settings > Apps > Shala Darpan > Clear Cache) and try again. Make sure you type the captcha exactly as shown — it is case-sensitive.
OTP not received during login
Verify that your mobile number is registered with Shala Darpan. Check that your phone has network signal. If the number has changed since registration, you cannot update it through the app — ask your school head to update it through the School Window on the desktop portal.
Feature issues
Report card not showing
The school may not have uploaded the report card yet. Check with your school head. If results are published but the report card is still missing, the school needs to upload it through the School Window. This is a school-side action, not something you can fix from the app.
Attendance not saving
Make sure you have a stable internet connection. The app needs connectivity to save attendance to the server. If the connection drops during saving, the data may not upload. Try again when you have a stronger signal. The app does not queue attendance for later upload — it requires a live connection.
Notifications not appearing
Check your phone's notification settings for the Shala Darpan app. Go to Settings > Apps > Shala Darpan > Notifications and make sure they are enabled. Also check that battery optimization is not blocking the app from running in the background.
Keeping your account secure
The same security rules that apply to the desktop portal apply to the app:
- Never share your OTP with anyone, even someone claiming to be from the education department.
- Do not save your password on shared or public phones. Use the app only on your personal device.
- Log out when finished if you are using the app on someone else's phone temporarily.
- Do not click links in suspicious messages claiming to be from Shala Darpan. Always open the app directly.
- Keep the app updated from the Play Store to get the latest security patches.
If you suspect your account has been compromised, contact your school head immediately. They can lock your account and initiate a password reset through the School Window. You should also check your phone for any unfamiliar apps that might have been installed without your knowledge.
Getting help
If you cannot resolve an issue through the troubleshooting steps above, here are your options:
- School head: They can fix most account issues, update your mobile number, reset passwords, and correct record errors.
- Block education office: For issues the school cannot fix, they will escalate to the block office.
- Official portal: Visit rajshaladarpan.rajasthan.gov.in for the "Contact Us" or "Help" section.
